1st Stop - Columbus Ohio

1st Stop - Columbus OH

We’re from Cleveland, and we’ve been to Columbus a few times before, so this wasn’t necessarily high on our priority list, but it was on the way and we’re trying not to travel more than 3 hours between destinations. So it worked.

All conked out on the drive down. Success

We planned to leave our home early Thursday morning in time to get set up at a Cracker Barrel and go to the COSI (Columbus’s science center). Instead, we left home around noon, and didn’t figure out how to get water to fill up our fresh water tank (minor details) before we got to the Cracker Barrel and parked the trailer. By that time, we would’ve only had an hour or two at the COSI and so we decided to eat food and go to Walmart to grab a few things (it’s not like we’d been shopping on Amazon every day straight for a month, or just gone grocery shopping 2 days ago…). Anywho, we made it safely (albeit without water in our fresh water tank, so we bought a 40-pk of water bottles at WallyWorld) but struck out on our first destination. Instead we played some games, did a puzzle, and the kids had fun riding bikes around the Cracker Barrel parking lot.

Freshly fed and still bright-eyed and bushy tailed about being in the truck :)

My little puzzlers

The second day, we successfully used our propane stove to cook breakfast! It’s the simple things in life :)

Then we drove over to the Columbus Ohio Temple to meet a friend and help her be sealed to her late husband and daughter for time and eternity. It was a very special day and we’re so glad we were able to be a part of it.

Day 3 (today, May 3rd) is our daughter’s birthday, she turned 2 years old! We were supposed to go to the Cincinnati Zoo, but the weather forecast didn’t cooperate. Mid-50s and raining all day. Not a great outdoor zoo day. So instead we stayed in Columbus an extra night and I dropped Megan and the kids off at the COSI (indoor science centers are great for a rainy day!) while I took the truck to a mechanic to have it checked out and the brake calipers replaced. That’s where I am now, just waiting for them to finish up so I can go pick up Megan and the kids, get the trailer, and boogie on down to Big Bone Lick State Park.

One of the things I’m most excited about on this trip is meeting cool, interesting people. And I’ll try to highlight as many of them as possible in my blog posts, because people are so awesome!

So here’s my very first Neat Person Spotlight!

Margie and her husband (Team Rammar) are from Hawaii and have been traveling the continental United States since 2023. They’re goal is to ice skate in all 50 states, and they might even get a Guiness World Record for it!  They decided to take this incredible journey after her husband had his hip replaced and he couldn’t surf and do his other normal water sports anymore. One of the things his doctor said he could do was ice skating. Ohio is their 39th state and 96th ice rink! They had planned to go for 3 years, and look for a place to retire/settle down, but decided to head back to Hawaii a little early. No place like home and I can’t say I blame them haha, Hawaii would be pretty hard to beat!
