Stay: August 8-10, 2025

   

Our travels took an exciting turn as we took a surprise trip to my sister, Abbey, and her new digs in Caldwell, ID.  What a nice change to sleep in a house! And a real shower!  The kids loved building bedtime forts for a cousin sleepover.  And there was even some space leftover for the kids to sleep after all the stuffed animals came out.  Sort of. 

The kids were very excited to play with their cousins. They brought out the mini pool, axe throwing, wiggle cars, and nerf darts.   D especially liked chasing the dog and cat, who were not necessarily the most willing playmates for this ambitious toddler. The boys went out back to enjoy many epic Orbeez shootouts.  Cousin Z was relentless! 

 

                           

But when Uncle Jay brought out the 4-Wheelers, everyone regrouped and tore around the neighborhood.

My sister, Laurie, came from Oregon to pick up her daughter and Abbey's daughter from the airport.  We hadn't told the girls that we were going to be there, so it was fun to see their faces when they saw us!  Then it was all riding bikes through the pump track, water fights, sand wars, and ultimate ninja warrior challenges for the rest of the afternoon.  I am proud to say that I beat Gary in the swinging rings monkeybars event. (Hold your applause. Thank you. Thank you!)

Our trip ended with a delicious trip to Karie Anne's Ice Cream truck, which even had dairy-free options for me!  Fabulous layers of gelati, italian ice, and custard... YUM!

We loved the chance to visit with Abbey and Jay (Thanks again for hosting us!) It is always nice to see family.

Final Preparations…They Almost Killed Us

Not pictured is the hour I wasted trying to figure out why the outdoor kitchen sink (above) wasn't draining...only to finally realize the strainer was also a plug and even after you take it out, it drains slowly... Final Preparations…They Almost Killed Us The thing about uprooting your entire lives to become nomads and live the relaxing nomadic life is, it takes a lot of planning and work!  Our lives for the 4 months of January to April were so incredibly busy and exhausting, I felt like this trip wasn’t worth it many times.  Even before January, Megan was spending a couple hours every night researching where we wanted to go and planning routes and finding costs and details of like 700 places of interest. Choosing Our Ride - Trucks

Blog Post #3 - Written April 20, 2025 Choosing Our Ride - Trucks Megan and I have never owned a truck before and our only experience driving one was driving a 26’ U-Haul truck towing our old Toyota Corolla from UT to OH in 2017. And the only time I tried backing that up I immediately jack-knifed and had to unhitch the car haha.  So when we told the RV dealer that we would buy a truck later, he understandably laughed and shook his head. But we figured, as we always do, that we’d figure it out along the way, like we always do. I talked to my boss (a big truck guy with lots of experience towing heavy boats and stuff) and a couple others and basically learned that we’d need a F-250 or bigger. They recommended we look for 3 things: Towing capacity: Our trailer has a dry weight of about 9,000 lbs, so once fully packed we estimated it would be about 11,000 lbs.
