42nd Stop - Moses Lake, WA

Blog Post #53 - Written February 20, 2026

Stay: August 22-23, 2025

Since we couldn't make it to La Grande, OR, to visit my sister, Laurie, she decided to bring her younger kids up to Moses Lake to spend the weekend with us!  We stayed at a city park with access to Moses Lake itself.

Setting up here was probably one of the most memorable.  The sites were non-descript and tight, so we just kinda guessed where our spot was.  Once we were stabilized (we had to use all of our blocks plus a few logs we scavenged from neighboring fire pits haha, because our back end was hanging out over a steep hill) and ready to hook up utilities, we discovered that the utility box was on the opposite side of the trailer.  And way up by the front of the trailer... We thought we were prepared, having an extra length of electric cord.  But, since this was the first time we faced this situation, (and since we bought all our stuff in total naivetĂ©), we did not realize that an adapter was needed.  Which we didn't have.  So, we used a couple other different adapters as pseudo extension cords to get the extra 3 feet we needed.

I open up the electric box and immediately felt an intense prick and burning in my thigh.  Our electric box had a very active hornets nest in it!  Luckily I was the only one to get stung.  So we hiked up to the camp host, and eventually tracked her down to get some hornet spray.  Let's just say that even to this day, I open the electric boxes slowly and with a stick if the area is questionable.

At last, Laurie and two of her kiddos (S and A) arrived and the epic weekend could begin.  We pumped up the kayaks and set out on a little adventure to the island in the middle of the lake.  A little exploration found a pirate flag and a bench.  And that was about it.

Aunt Laurie is definitely the "fun aunt, a title she wears proudly :)

D fell asleep (as usual) in Gary's kayak, see if you can find her

The rest of the weekend was spent jumping off the little dock and wrestling on the paddle boards. Then it was a very long game of 500 (frisbee game) and playing at the playground.  Gary got out the water balloon launchers and the kids all took turns launching and being targets.   Our kids were thrilled with their 2nd sleepover in the trailer.

It was a fun weekend and a big thanks Laurie for making the drive!
