44th Stop - Union, WA

Stay: August 27, 2025

So, I don't really have any pictures of our stay in Union, but we had a really neat time at this Boondockers Welcome (another RV camping group, related to Harvest Hosts but free) home.  Our host Patt was a wonderfully kind lady who ruled her yard from the most epic cross-country electric wheelchair.  Her yard was quite an ordeal to get into.  We booked it up a steep, wet, dirt driveway, and miraculously didn't get stuck.  Before us was a road that was entirely surrounded by trees and a couple of RV "sites", again surrounded by trees.  A long term camper helped us park, which involved a few 20 point turns, and we were finally settled in.

We got chatting with a few of the campers.  One man had been on the road for about 3 years after leaving his custom home building business.  His favorite place was Baja California, with winters full of whales and dolphins and beautifully affordable campgrounds. The kids loved playing fetch with his dogs.

Another camper, the one who helped get us set up, had been road tripping on-and-off for many years. He was now in Union trying to find a house for his family.  But this man was the most precision-based camper we had ever met.  While out boondocking in very isolated locales, he only went into town once a month, perfectly rationing food, water, and other supplies to a T.  It was truly incredible to think about replicating, but with D and her addiction to bananas and oranges, we are lucky if we only go shopping once a week!

The highlight of our short stay here was Patt's generosity.  She invited everyone into her home in the morning for a little breakfast get-together with one of our favorites, monkey-bread!  She loves having visitors come and share stories and food with her.  We loved the sense of community, even for a moment.
