60th Stop - Tombstone and Wilcox, AZ

Blog Post #71 - Written May 25, 2026

Stay: October 20-21, 2025

So, I had secretly hoped that we would be able to go to Tombstone, AZ during our trip.  I remembered going as a kid and it was like stepping back in time.  Our original plan didn't have us going down that far south in AZ, so I thought it would have to be another trip.

BUT... since all of our plans changed, we were in the far remote corner of AZ and decided to make the drive out!

Tombstone is still a fun tourist town, but full of history.  We enjoyed learning about the mad rush of people coming to mine silver in Tombstone.  And the embalming process (pics below).

They have this Cyclorama, a moving diorama with narration.  We walked around the museums, trying to lasso a "cow", riding in wagons and buggies, and watching the blacksmith, until it was our turn to go to the notorious O.K. Corral.

They had a blacksmith forging various trinkets.

They have a live reenactment of the infamous showdown between Doc Holiday and the Earp Brothers, which was fun to watch. The cast did a fabulous job.

We couldn't leave Tombstone without getting a Sarsaparilla Root Beer.  And reading all of the entertaining placards. Sufficiently cooled down, we hopped back in the truck and continued our drive to our next stop.

Our Harvest Host was so much fun.  They had kids who invited our kids to come and play.  We toured their farm, played with their dogs, and the kids all disappeared to play in the house, collect eggs, and check out the garden.

They recommended we go checkout the local Pumpkin Patch.  We didn't end up buying pumpkins, but we picked a ton of peppers.  Bell, JalapeƱos, Green Chili, Red Chili, and probably more.  We also did their corn maze.  The maze was super fun. They have 3 levels of difficulty and we did them all haha.  They have a bunch of themed trivia questionnaires to help you get through the maze.  Again, I think we did them all (sports, boy scouts, history, science, etc).  The kids (and maybe the parents too) favorite part was finding the old ears of corn, breaking off the dried corn, and surprise attacking each other with a rainfall of corn kernels.

We had a hard time convincing the kids that we wouldn't take home all of the corn they had collected.  So they shucked them all and put all the kernels in their hats for the last ultimate kernel fight.

They also had a ton of pretty flowers, cool caterpillars, and tractors!

It was a short stay, but we enjoyed this little corner of Arizona.
